The terms, in plain language.

Révéler is free software you can use without signing up, without handing over data, and without getting upsold to a paid tier. Your photos stay yours. These terms are the long version of those promises.

The short version: use the app for photography, keep the photos you make, don't try to reverse-engineer the binary or use the camera to harm people. We make no warranty and you've paid nothing, so our liability is limited accordingly. That's really it.

1. What you're agreeing to

By installing or using Révéler (the "app") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't install or use the app — there's no other catch, no cancellation fee, no account to disable.

These terms are between you and Honorius M. Neogy, the sole developer of Révéler, located in Australia. Where the terms say "we" or "us," they mean Honorius Neogy; where they say "you," they mean the person installing or using the app.

2. License to use the app

We grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable license to install and use Révéler on any Apple device you own or control, for any lawful purpose — personal or commercial — at no cost and for as long as you like. The photographs you produce with it are yours (see §3). The app itself stays ours.

You may not:

Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also governs your use of apps installed through the App Store; where these terms and Apple's EULA say different things about the same subject, the stricter of the two applies.

3. Your photos are yours

You own every photograph you take with Révéler. We don't claim any rights to your content. We don't have any way to access your content — it never leaves your device, because Révéler has no servers and makes no network calls (see the privacy policy for the full line-by-line breakdown).

When you share a frame via the iOS share sheet, what happens next is between you and whatever destination app or service you shared it to. Their terms apply at that point, not ours.

4. The app is provided "as is"

Révéler is given to you free of charge, as is, without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We try hard to ship a polished app, but we can't guarantee it will work correctly on every device, in every edge case, under every iOS version.

Don't use Révéler for life-critical photography: medical imaging, legal evidence, identification documents, vehicle inspection records, safety-critical documentation. It's a consumer camera app for everyday photography, not a professional instrument of record.

If your jurisdiction guarantees non-waivable consumer rights that override this disclaimer (Australian consumers under the Australian Consumer Law, for example, or EU consumers under equivalent directives), those rights are preserved in full.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will Honorius Neogy be liable to you or any third party for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use (or inability to use) Révéler — including but not limited to lost photographs, lost time, lost opportunities, damaged reputation, or missed creative windows.

Our total cumulative liability for anything arising out of these terms or your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid to use Révéler, which is nothing.

As with the warranty disclaimer above, non-waivable rights under your local consumer-protection law (ACL for Australian consumers, equivalent EU directives, etc.) are preserved and are not limited by this clause.

6. Acceptable use

Use Révéler for photographs you'd be comfortable making in front of the people you photograph. Specifically, don't:

We can't enforce most of this — Révéler has no server, no telemetry, and no way to see what you're shooting. But these restrictions are a condition of your license, and we reserve the right to terminate the license of anyone we learn is using the app for any of the above.

7. Termination

Your license to use the app is automatically terminated if you breach these terms, specifically the restrictions in §2 or the acceptable-use clauses in §6. On termination you must uninstall the app. You can also terminate the license at any time by uninstalling the app — no process, no email, no account to close.

Sections 4 (as-is), 5 (liability), 9 (governing law), and 10 (contact) survive termination.

8. Changes to these terms

If we ever update these terms, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will also appear in the app's release notes on the App Store. Continued use of the app after a material change means you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree, uninstall the app — we won't retain any data about you because we never had any.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New South Wales, Australia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these terms will be resolved in the courts of New South Wales, unless you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose laws grant you the right to pursue a claim in your local courts (in which case, of course, that right is preserved).

10. Contact

Questions, complaints, compliments, concerns about these terms or about Révéler in general: write to honorius@neogy.dev. We read every message personally. Usually we reply within a day.
